In the Gallagher Premiership, Harlequins and Gloucester Rugby took on an all-Group A clash at Twickenham Stoop, with the hosts winning 21-12, all points coming from the first half.
Converted attempts by Danny Care and Dino Lamb gave the Harlequins a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter of an hour, but Gloucester brought them back with goals from Ben Morgan and Santiago Soccino.
However, Care’s second try of the night earned him the win for Quins, who travel to Cell C Sharks in the first round of the Heineken Champions Cup on December 10, when Gloucester hosts Union Bordeaux-Bègles.
Meanwhile, another A-team team, Exeter Chiefs, lost 21-24 at the Newcastle Falcons despite Ruben van Heelden, Jack Yeander and Scott West Odu had tried.
The 2020 Heineken Champions Cup winners travel to Castres Olympiad on 10 December.
