CMA CGM Air Cargo leases four of its freighters to Qatar Cargo and dhl‘s express airline European Transport Leipzig (EAT), Oliver Link wrote air cargo newsister title DVZ.
On paper, CMA CGM Air Cargo has a fleet of six freighters; it consists of two B777F wide-body aircraft and four A330-200 designed for medium and long-haul routes.
flight data analysis DVZ Indicating that the French airline is currently using only two of its own freighters to service its network, [as previously reported by FreightWaves].
However, four of its planes fly for other carriers: one of the two B777Fs currently serves Qatar Airways Cargo, mainly between Europe and Doha.
However, Qatar Airways occasionally uses the freighter for short-haul flights within Europe, such as from Luxembourg to Paris or London to Basel.
A second freighter leased to Qatar Airways Cargo from the Air France fleet is also used between European hubs in Brussels, Paris, Luxembourg and Doha.
dhl‘s express carrier European Transport Leipzig (EAT) has taken delivery of two more A330-200s from the Air France fleet.
The plane currently flies between Brussels and Miami and Cincinnati. This is where dhl Express operates its main North American hub.
Both EAT and Qatar Airways Cargo use CMA CGM Air Cargo freighters, using their own IATA codes, indicating that the aircraft are usually leased out on long-term leases rather than short-term charters.
As part of a change in its marketing capabilities, the airline has stopped its North American routes for now; previously offered flights to and from Chicago and Atlanta have been cancelled.
Word from within CMA CGM Air Cargo is that at least the connection to Chicago will be restored.
Initially, there will be an additional flight from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Chicago on December 29.
From January 5, 2023, the airline will offer more flights between Paris and Chicago, it said.
CMA CGM Air Cargo currently only maintains scheduled services on the existing intercontinental network between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Hong Kong; the remaining B777 freighters serve this route on a daily basis.
The French airline currently has a second remaining freighter with daily flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Cairo.
Earlier this week, Air Cargo News reported that CMA CGM was considering expanding its air cargo operations in Vietnam, while also putting capacity on online booking portal CargoAi.
